Why Choose Our Egg Donation Services At Fertility SA?

At Fertility SA, our egg donation services begin with an ethical, evidence-based approach to donor selection and screening. Each donor undergoes an extensive medical, psychological, and genetic assessment to confirm they are physically and emotionally suitable. This thorough vetting safeguards the health of both the donor and the future child.

We tailor every treatment plan to the needs of the individuals involved, recognising that no two journeys are the same. We provide clear timelines, honest advice, and holistic care throughout.

Our transparent donor compensation model means that donors are recognised for their time and generosity, while our financial counselling gives recipients a clear understanding of costs and inclusions before proceeding. We aim to make the process as informed, fair, and emotionally supported as possible for everyone involved.

The Egg Donation Process For Receiving Donor Eggs

If you’re considering receiving donor eggs, understanding the steps involved can provide clarity and reassurance. At Fertility SA, we’ve refined the process into four key stages:

Initial Consultation & Assessment

Your journey begins with a consultation with one of our Adelaide fertility specialists. During this visit, we’ll explore your medical history, fertility goals, and treatment options. We’ll also explain how the egg donation process works, including timelines, legal considerations, and costs, so you can make confident decisions moving forward.

Donor Matching & Screening

If you are looking to find an egg donor, we’ll work to match you with a suitable donor based on your preferences and compatibility. All clinic-recruited donors undergo extensive screening for health, genetics, and psychological well-being. If you are using a known donor, we’ll also guide them through this same assessment process to confirm their suitability.

Treatment Preparation & Synchronisation

Once a donor is approved and a match is confirmed, both the donor and recipient are medically prepared. The donor undergoes hormone treatment to stimulate egg production, while the recipient’s cycle is managed to optimise the uterine environment for embryo transfer. The recommended approach is often to freeze embryos and then have a frozen embryo cycle however we can also monitor both parties closely throughout this stage to synchronise timing and treatment protocols.

Egg Retrieval & Embryo Transfer

The egg donation procedure is carried out under sedation in our specialised procedure suite. The eggs are retrieved, then fertilised with either partner's or donor sperm in our laboratory. The resulting embryos are carefully monitored and, when ready, transferred to the recipient’s uterus or frozen for future use. A pregnancy test is scheduled approximately two weeks after the embryo transfer.

FAQs

What is egg donation?

Donating eggs involves a woman (the donor) providing her eggs to help another individual or couple conceive a child. These eggs are fertilised through IVF, and the resulting embryos are transferred to the recipient’s uterus.

How does the egg donation process work?

The egg donation process includes screening and preparation of both donor and recipient, retrieval of eggs from the donor, fertilisation in a laboratory, and transfer of the embryo to the recipient. Each step is carefully timed and medically managed.

How long does the egg donation process take?

The entire process can take several weeks to a few months, depending on donor availability and individual circumstances. Your fertility specialist will provide a tailored timeline during your consultation.

What are the success rates of using donated eggs in IVF?

Using donor eggs typically offers high success rates, particularly for individuals with age-related infertility or poor egg quality. Success depends on various factors, including the recipient’s overall health and the quality of the embryos.

How much does it cost to use an egg donor?

Costs vary depending on whether you use a clinic-recruited or known donor, and whether you need additional procedures such as embryo freezing or genetic testing. Fertility SA offers financial guidance to help you plan with clarity.

How do I find an egg donor in Adelaide?

You can access egg donors in Adelaide through Fertility SA’s in-house donor program, where all donors are thoroughly screened and matched by our clinical team. Alternatively, you may choose to use a known donor, in which case we’ll guide both of you through the medical and legal requirements.

Can I use a known donor (friend or family member)?

Yes. Known donors must meet the same egg donation requirements as clinic-recruited donors. We offer guidance, support, and counselling to make sure all parties are fully informed and comfortable with the process.

What are the legal requirements for egg donation in South Australia?

Egg donation in South Australia must comply with the state’s Assisted Reproductive Treatment Act. All donors and recipients must undergo counselling, provide informed consent, and agree to identity disclosure provisions, as donor-conceived individuals have the right to access donor information once they turn 18.

Can children conceived through egg donation contact the donor later in life?

Yes. Under South Australian law, donor-conceived individuals have the right to request identifying information about their donor once they reach adulthood.
